Mitrione Defeats Beltran by Decision
-Matt Mitrione from season 10 of the Ultimate Fighter was up against Joey Beltran in the preliminary bout for UFC 119.
Hometown boy Matt Mitrione won the opening bout 29-28 in a unanimous decision, in front of his hometown crowd. The fight was exciting as both warriors were aggressive, focused, and determined.
Mitrione had home field advantage with the crowd screaming “Meathead” & “Matt”.
Round 1 was full of action as Mitrione hurts Beltran early, but Beltran was able to put Mitrione down and inflict some ground and pound punishment. Mitrione tried several submission attempts but was not successful.
Round 2 Started with Beltran looking a little more at ease. Mitrione delivers a head kick, and many punches. He dominated the stand up, but Beltran is able to escape much of the punishment.
Round 3 continues to be exciting with aggressive exchanges. Mitrione has a skip in his step as he dances in with jabs and bounds back out of the line of fire. Beltran is physically drained, and his face is bleeding badly. Toward the end of the round, Mitrione connected with a few big hits, but Beltran ends with a furry of punches to end the round.
All in all it was a great fight, in my book the judges got it right on the money.
